At Smith Mountain Lake, the thrill of catching stripers persists all year round, even during the chill of winter. Average catches weigh between 6-12 pounds, but it’s not rare to reel in a whopping 20-pounder. Regardless of whether you’re a seasoned angler or just beginning, we’ll guide you to Virginia’s most exhilarating fishing spots. And if you’ve got kids, there’s no better place to ignite their passion for fishing than with the exciting striper.

We usually set sail from the convenient Halesford Bridge area in Bedford County, but we can change our starting point depending on the stripers’ feeding locations and seasonal patterns. Beyond fishing, the area tempts with water skiing, house boating, and sightseeing opportunities. With a full-service state park on Smith Mountain and five golf courses nearby, it’s a paradise for golfers of all skill levels. We look forward to seeing you on the water.

Our charters depart at first light and offer 4-5 hour (half-day) or 8-9 hour (full-day) trips. Anglers can legally keep two stripers each. Fish caught between June 1 and October 31 have no length limits, while those caught between November 1 and May 31 must adhere to a protective slot limit of 30-40 inches. We also encourage our clients to catch, photograph, and release stripers to help protect this incredible fishery. We’ll capture pictures of your trophy quickly, ensuring it can be released unharmed.

To Book Your Trip

To schedule a trip, please text or call me to discuss your preferred fishing date. If you need to reschedule, please let me know as soon as possible so I can book another party for that date. In case of a no-show, we will charge the full balance to the credit card on file.

Cancellation policy

I understand that do to certain circumstances clients may need to reschedule, that’s no problem at all. Please call me as soon as you think you need to reschedule so that I can book another party for that date.

No-Show policy

 If my party does not show up, then I will charge their credit card for the full balance.

    We provide all fishing equipment, including live bait, and will send you action photos of your adventure. We’ll either release your catch or put it on ice. You’ll need to bring a Virginia fishing license (kids under age 16 exempt), rain gear, camera, sunglasses, food, drink, and a cooler for fish. Dress for the weather—mornings can be cool, even if the afternoon promises warmth. Pack more clothes than you think you’ll need.
